It was an obvious answer: Tarot Cards ✨
Before you write it off, I want you to know that I was skeptical too. I thought tarot was for so-called fortune tellers who wanted to scam you as they predict your future…
Turns out that’s really NOT what it's all about.
It's about using questions and the cards you pull to guide you to your own inner wisdom and knowing. It helps reveal the answers you need when they're a little harder to uncover - when your brain has been trained to listen to the tenets of Toxic Professionalism instead of your own intuition.
During the early pandemic quarantine days when everything was still unknown, my career and job search journey was taking me for a loop. I had been unemployed since Sept 2019 and that next spring in 2020 all my job prospects disappeared overnight with the uncertainty of the world. Not sure what to do next, I felt lost and needed some serious insight.
Around that time, my friend hosted a virtual tarot card party. We all got to give context about our situation and have a tarot card pulled for us. It was exciting because you don’t know what card is going to show up for you. It was my first time experiencing tarot so the other group members helped me interpret the card.
I can’t remember the card.
But the card really doesn’t matter.
What’s important is the interpretation and insight I got, which I do remember: my ambition and skills as a generalist were made for leadership and entrepreneurship. This is something I told myself “one day” I’ll be in a leading role, starting my own business. I needed to create my own opportunity NOW.
I met with my mentor shortly after, who recommended I try consulting. It was only a few weeks later I met my co-founder and we decided to start a consultancy business together.
It was helpful to have that insight which set the wheels in motion for me in a new direction I could have never predicted…but felt right.
A few months later my friend gifted me my own deck of tarot cards. I’ve been using tarot as a regular tool to help me get in touch with my inner wisdom and knowing ever since.
